Great American Eclipse
July 18 @ 1:00 pm - 3:00 pmFree
On August 21, 2017, a total solar eclipse will cross the United States from coast to coast. It will give tens of millions of people along a 70-mile-wide path from Oregon to South Carolina a chance to see the Sun’s spectacular corona, a sight hidden from view except during a totality. Occurring during the summer vacation season, it holds the potential to be seen by more people than any other eclipse history. The Kalamazoo Astronomical Society President, Richard Bell, will give a preview of this historic event. He’ll also explain why solar eclipses occur and how to view them safety. Eclipse Shades, which make it possible for you to safely view the Sun’s surface during the partial phases of the eclipse, will be available for purchase for $3/pair. Weather permitting; there will also be a telescope available for your viewing pleasure.
