Friendship Village is pleased to announce the Opening Date of its highly anticipated Aquatic Center to continue meeting the health and wellness needs of its residents with unique resort-style amenities. A ribbon cutting ceremony will be held July 10 at 1pm to officially open the doors of the now 8,000 square-foot building that houses both a state-of-the-art Fitness Center and the brand new Aquatic Center.
“The Aquatic Center at Friendship Village raises the bar on senior living,” said Ken Greschak, Director of Fund Development and Life Enrichment. “No other senior living community in our area features a pool of any kind, let alone a wonderful warm water pool in a beautiful new building. This wonderful addition will provide key health and fitness programs for current and future generations of residents.”
The New Aquatic Center features a current pool, dry heat sauna, locker rooms and inviting lobby. A spacious outdoor patio with beautiful landscaping also provides a wonderful spot for residents to entertain family and friends. But the shining star of the new Aquatic Center is the 16’x32’ exercise pool, which is different than a “swimming” pool. Residents will be able to swim laps in a special lane with an adjustable rate current, but it’s primarily designed for aquatic group classes. The pool will have very warm water (around 90 degrees) and an air temperature to match, creating a soothing, comfortable experience for residents both in and out of the pool.
Programs and activities will include: daily water aerobics of varying intensities, lap swimming, lap
walking, free swim, and sauna relaxation. The benefits of water exercise at the Aquatic Center will be invaluable for Friendship Village residents.
“Water exercise is ideally suited for older adults to help them maintain strength and stamina, flexibility, and improved balance. All of this leads to stronger legs and core muscles, which is the best thing you can do to prevent falls,” says Greschak. “The buoyancy of the salt water makes workouts easier on the back, knees, hips and shoulders, while providing low impact strengthening and aerobic conditioning. Plus, water exercise is just plain fun! Grandkids and great-grandkids will enjoy the water, as well. We are thrilled to provide a beautiful place where today’s seniors can lead active, healthy lifestyles. We strive to make Friendship Village feel like a resort, where residents feel comfortable, happy, and can truly live well.”
Please join us for a 1pm ribbon cutting ceremony on July 10. The New Aquatic Center is located in the Kiva Courtyard on the Friendship Village campus—1400 N. Drake Rd. in Kalamazoo.
