The Men In Our Lives – Bill Garnett

Bill Garnett is a busy man who seems to make excellence look so easy. A husband, father of three adult children and the fixed operations manager for DeNooyer Chevrolet and DeNooyer Ford, Bill knows that finding balance between the professional and personal can be daunting at times. I sat down with Bill asked him about balancing the roles of father, husband and professional.

Q& A
WHAT ADVICE WOULD YOU GIVE NEW DADS?
Don’t worry about being perfect! Be open to mentors, share and accept help, be present, stay the course and don’t stop praying for your family.

HOW DO YOU BALANCE WORK AND FAMILY?
Most would agree, at times, it is easier said than done. I admit, it has not been that easy for me at different times of my life. This is what I say to others: This is our workplace, not our lives. When we are here we work and when we leave for the day, we live our lives. This is what I’ve learned over the years. You have to carve out little moments throughout the day to think about your loved ones. We too often bring too much of our work thoughts home but fail to carry thoughts of our loved ones to work with us. Let your family know you are thinking about them during your daily breaks.

WHAT IS YOUR FAVORITE THING TO DO WITH YOUR KIDS?
My favorite thing to do with my oldest (son) is to play video games, just like when he was a pre-teen. This allows us to connect and catch up on life. Otherwise, we like to see action movies together. The next oldest (son) and I love to play sports together, mainly basket-ball. These games are still pretty competitive. Our next favorite thing is to just grill and relax. My youngest (daughter) and I really enjoy cooking together and our other favorite activities are to eat or take long walks.

WHAT IS YOUR PROUDEST ACCOMPLISHMENT AS A FATHER?
Watching our children grow up and find their way in life, the adult relationships they have developed with each other and the relationship my wife and I have with them are my proudest accomplishments.

Heather Dombos is a Florida girl who brings a little sass & southern charm to everything she does. This wife, dog mom, and closet Trekkie loves reading, hiking, long days on the beach and exploring Michigan.
