KALAMAZOO –Kalamazoo Bicycle Club’s Bike Camp is an education and training program for beginning cyclists and people returning to the sport. Bike Camp focuses on road cycling and combines both instructional and on-the-road training in a safe, supported environment. It’s a great way to learn or improve your cycling skills and build confidence with riding on the road. Doug Kirk, KBC President said, “Bike Camp is a great way for people interested in cycling to learn how to safely ride on the road and build confidence in their skills in a supportive environment. After completing Bike Camp, participants will be ready to hit the road on their own or join in our regular group club rides.”
Now in its fifteenth year, Bike Camp consists of five sessions, starting with an orientation and information session on Thursday, May 9th, followed by four consecutive Saturday morning information and riding sessions starting May 11th, and ending June 1st. Specific topics covered in Bike Camp include bike fit for better comfort and efficiency, bicycle laws, navigating safely on the road with traffic, bicycle handling skills, basic bicycle mechanics, and training to reach fitness goals. Each Saturday session includes on-the-road group rides led by experienced mentors. The group rides are organized by pace and distance to accommodate everyone’s fitness level.
In addition to the educational and training sessions, Bike Camp registration includes a one-year membership to the Kalamazoo Bicycle Club and registration in this year’s KalTour, the club’s Kalamazoo Scenic Bicycle Tour which takes place in late June.
Bike Camp is designed for adults and minors, 12 and up. The price for 2019 Bike Camp is $60 for individuals and $75 for families. To register for Bike Camp or learn more about the Kalamazoo Bicycle Club and its weekly rides and activities, visit the group’s website at: www.kalamazoobicycleclub.org.
