Kalamazoo Valley Museum Hosts Safe Halloween

Downtown Kalamazoo will be bursting with ghosts and goblins on October 29, 2016, as the Kalamazoo Valley Museum and Kalamazoo Parks and Recreation Department celebrate Safe Halloween! Parks and Rec will be in Bronson Park from 11 a.m. to 1 p.m. with Halloween Festivities. Visit the Kalamazoo Valley Museum for Haunted House crafts between 12 and 4 p.m., Spooky Space Adventures in the Challenger Learning Center from 12:30 to 3:30 p.m., and Nitewalk planetarium show every half hour between 11 a.m. and 3:30 p.m., all FREE!

Create all things found lurking around a haunted house! Weave a crow mat, decorate a spider and web, assemble a black cat, bat, and frog, and make a giant mouse costume. Create a pumpkin fan, a trick-or-treat bag, potion magnet, witch’s broom, tombstone tissue cover, knight mask, and skull. Make a variety of haunted houses and check out our traveling exhibit Sustainable Shelters.

Take a spooky Nitewalk through a cemetery, cave, and dark corridors during Safe Halloween. Not recommended for small children or anyone easily spooked! Free planetarium shows every 30 minutes from 11 a.m. to 3:30 p.m.

NASA has discovered an abandoned spacecraft orbiting Earth. This spacecraft supposedly crashed on Mars several years ago, but is now attempting to make contact with Mission Control. A brave and daring crew is needed to assist with the retrieval of this Spacecraft. Appropriate for ages 2 and up; children under the age of 15 must be accompanied by a parent or guardian. Sorry, but due to tight quarters, strollers are not permitted. Free tickets are available a half hour before each Safe Halloween Adventure from 12:30 through 3:30 p.m.

General admission to the Museum and Safe Halloween are free.

The Kalamazoo Valley Museum is operated by Kalamazoo Valley Community College and is governed by its Board of Trustees.
