Susan M. Dennis, D.D.S. offered cash to trick-or-treaters and is sending candy to troops overseas.
Portage dentist, Dr. Susan M. Dennis, is teaming up with Operation Gratitude to keep kids’ smiles cavity-free while sending treats to troops deployed overseas, their children left behind and wounded warriors in military medical care.
Dr. Dennis and her team held their sixth annual Halloween Candy Buyback on November 1st and 2nd, 2016 at 8150 Moorsbridge Road, Suite A in Portage, Michigan. Dr. Dennis paid $1 per pound for new, wrapped candy. Over 325 pounds were collected and will be shipped to Operation Gratitude, a non-profit, volunteer-based organization. Operation Gratitude will put the donated candy in care packages that will be sent to troops over the holidays. Many people wrote letters to the troops thanking them for their dedication to serve our country and children drew pictures. All donors were eligible to win an iPod touch from Dr. Dennis.
“We want Michigan kids to have healthy teeth and beautiful smiles,” Dr. Dennis said. “Our team is encouraging children to treat our troops with a portion of their Halloween candy.”
Tooth decay is the number one childhood illness and this event will help prevent cavities caused by snacking on too many sugary Halloween sweets. It gives children an opportunity to make money while supporting the troops.
Dr. Dennis will be available for on-camera, in-person or over-the-phone interviews.
Operation Gratitude has sent over 1,641,000 care packages! Our office has sent over 1,548 pounds of candy including this year!
